Appraisal Reports 101 | Fee Overview
Written Appraisals
Objective: establish fair market value(s), replacement value for the following uses: estate settlement, insurance claims or coverage, legal requirements, charitable donations of $5000 or greater, tax compliance, business contents valuations, various valuations, and/or equitable distribution. At the conclusion of the assignment a written report will be created to deliver a formal opinion of value.
What Your Onsite Inspection Fee Includes:
- Detailed Examination: We'll thoroughly inspect, identify, and assess the condition of your items. UV light analysis may be used to aid in this process.
- Measurements & Photos: We'll capture dimensions and take general digital photographs for reference and record keeping purposes.
- Market Research: We'll conduct a market analysis to adequately assess value.
- Provenance Research (if applicable): We'll gather any relevant history or prominent ownership information.
- Hourly, Daily, or Project Rates: We offer flexible billing options. There is a 1-hour minimum for all assignments.
- Transparent Pricing: All fees will be clearly conveyed in a written agreement before your appointment.
- Subject Matter Experts: Access to specialists for specific item categories - as required; this is not a common occurrence
- Travel Expenses: A travel fee applies for inspections greater than 20 roundtrip miles from our Raleigh base
- Extended Appraisals: Per diem rates apply for full-day assignments and out-of-state travel.
- Additional Scoping: Fees apply for additional on-site inspections or consultations beyond the initial scope of work.
- Misc.: Additional Report Copies, Expedited Delivery, Hardbound Report Format
NTE Bids/Estimates available for art advisors, higher-ed, corporations, non-profits, and government entities. Please include detail when scheduling your initial consultation.
Verbal Appraisals
Objective: identify general value, estimates for resale, pre-sale walk-through price estimates/review* for in-person sales (estate/yard/direct sale(s). Additionally general security guidance for conducting in-person sales.
What Your Onsite Inspection Fee Includes:
- Detailed Examination: We'll thoroughly inspect, identify, and assess the condition of your items. UV light analysis may be used to aid in this process.
- Measurements & Photos: We may capture dimensions and take general digital photographs or video for reference and record keeping purposes.
- Market Research: We'll share general readily available market analysis used to adequately assess value. We may suggest relevant markets if you are seeking to sell your property to the right audience.
- Provenance Research (if applicable): We'll determine if the readily available history or prominent ownership may be of significance to value.
- A verbal opinion of value will be conveyed to the client during the appointment.
Consultation Fees:

Pre-Appraisal Consultations*
Objective: determine appraisal needs, a timeline, convey our fee structure, provide a general outline of the correct appraisal methodology, and our process. We'll provide adequate information for you to determine if an appraisal is warranted and schedule an on-site appraisal if you're ready to proceed to the next phase.
- A high-level conversation of 30 or 60-minutes by phone or Zoom
- An overview of appraisal needs
- Timeline reviews
* Not all items will qualify for appraisal. No written report will be provided in verbal appraisal appointments. Cancellation fees apply.
Downsize Guidance Consultation**
Purpose: provide insight regarding procedures related to the downsize process, resale or donation of fine art, collectibles, or inherited property; learn about your options and general responsibilities with a consultation before making any major decisions.
What Your Downsize Guidance Fee Includes:
- A 30 or 60-minute consultation by phone or Zoom.
- An overview of the valuation process and if it may be needed to support your item values.
- A primer on avoiding predatory businesses and "helpers".
- Condition, condition, condition and why it matters.
- Discussion related to whether resale is the right course of action
- Resale Venue Overview - in-person, resale, and/or auctions
